IMPORTANT MESSAGE

It has been 5 years since we started and it is now time to develop our website. Therefore please forgive us while we reconstruct our website and make some improvements. Please come back and see us in the near future. Thank you for your patience.

In recent years English wine has become a force to be reckoned with, even beating the traditional competition at international level. English wines have become a wine to drink through choice and not just patriotism. The English Wine Service continually selects English wines that have won awards for their outstanding quality enabling you to shop on line with complete confidence. The English wines on this site are predominantly handcrafted estate wines produced in low volumes giving each wine its very own delicious personality for you to discover and enjoy.

As the industry celebrates over fifty years since the first commercial harvest, it has reached a turning point in its history. Sales of English wines are at an all time high, particularly over the busy summer months. Intense media interest has followed the success of an English sparkling wine beating over 55 other countries to the title of Best Sparkling White Wine in the World. Demand has never been higher and the interest in English wines never greater. The industry is also experiencing a significant upturn in vineyard planting, striking a new growth of this home industry.

'An English style?'

The climate and soil conditions in England dictate the varieties of grape which can be grown and harvested successfully. The black grape varieties are the most difficult to grow needing a warmer climate to ripen correctly, but there are some which can be grown successfully without the need for 'tunnels'. Hence only some 10% of wine production is currently red.
Great success has come from the production of sparkling wines. This is attributed to the combined effects of the chalky soil of southeast England and the local climatic conditions, which can be likened to the Champagne region of France.
Throughout England there are many different microclimates and soil conditions, which has led to a wide variety of vines being planted. The combination of varied climatic conditions and grape varieties has given rise to a selection of English wine 'styles'. However, there are some common pleasing characteristics between these wines, which invariably include a floral bouquet, and a crisp, fresh taste making them uniquely English.
